Seasonal property checklist
What we tell our own customers around Greers Ferry Lake to look at each season. Print it, stick it on the shop wall, and call us for the parts you'd rather not do off a ladder.
Spring
March – May
- Walk the tree line for storm-cracked limbs and leaning trunks
- Clear winter debris out of ditches, swales and culverts
- Check retaining walls for bulges, washouts or leaning block
- Re-level and top off gravel on drives and parking pads
- Fresh mulch and edging on beds before weeds take hold
- Reseed or sod bare spots while the ground is still damp
- Test that downspouts still drain away from the foundation
Summer
June – August
- Trim limbs off the roof, gutters and power drop
- Keep brush cut back from the drive so trucks can get in
- Water new plantings and sod deeply, early in the day
- Watch for dead or thinning trees — they come down in storms
- Sweep and re-sand flagstone joints on patios and walks
Fall
September – November
- Remove hazard trees before ice season, not after
- Clean leaves out of drains, dry creek beds and gutters
- Cut back perennials and haul off the brush pile
- Check the drive for ruts before winter rain deepens them
- Final mow and leaf cleanup after the last hard drop
- Stack and cover firewood away from the house
Winter
December – February
- Best season for land clearing — no leaves, hard ground, less mess
- Plan next year's patio, wall or drainage work while we're open
- Walk the property after every ice storm and note broken limbs
- Keep culverts open so freeze-thaw runoff has somewhere to go
